As part of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the CIU’s work covers 54 diverse cities and towns. A district attorney’s office’s mission is to protect and serve all people who work, live, and raise their families in Middlesex County. This includes ensuring those who were convicted of crimes were prosecuted in a fair and just manner.

For a case to be eligible for review, the Conviction at issue must have occurred in Middlesex County, the defendant must face a restraint of liberty, and the application must present a post-conviction claim of factual innocence or allege a potential miscarriage of justice. Once these criteria are met, the CIU will initiate the review process.
